Today’s devotional is teaching us about hearing God’s direction. Many people in the Word, have fantastic memories of when God revealed to them a job that He needed for them to do. Moses had a horrible stutter and was not prone to speaking in front of others, yet became the voice of God’s chosen people. Paul was a warrior for the other side, capturing Christians and at times putting them to death. When God called them, He equipped them with what they needed to accomplish the task at hand. Both of these particular examples where great moments for believers with extreme moments with God, where he displayed His desire to theses men. It is so very important that we know there does not have to be a light shinning down from Heaven, or a bush that was on fire from our Father in order for us to get a powerful message from God with direction on where He wants us to work. Let us all remember from the lesson Jonah learned, that when God gives us His plan, it’s not something we can ignore or we might find our selves in the belly of a whale. There have been tremendous events that have made great changes in the life of Christian’s past and present where there was a message from God with no shining lights, they just simply followed at God’s urging. I cant go back too far or some might not know who I am talking about, but most folks know who Billy Graham is. His messages have led to revival around our country, as well as the private counsel he gave to several presidents. Rev Graham said he was brought to God from a traveling salesman. No one knew what a big change had happened except for a young Billy. God knows the future as well as the past, and when He comes to those who seek His direction for their lives, He knows exactly where to place them and how to use their talents. If needed, He will give you what you need to accomplish the task. Each of these examples were very important to many lives, but there are times when God reaches out to the neighbor up the block to do some small deed. They might not even realize the importance of the task they performed, but because they kept that door open to God’s word, then followed through when He gave them a job to do, could very well make a massive difference in someone’s life. I think it is important to note that when we are open to God’s word and follow His direction for a small job, then God sees that you are listening, and following His direction for your life and can thus entrust you with a bigger job later, because you are trust worthy. Now if God spoke to you about doing some small job and you ignore it thinking it can’t be from God, because who would it really help, or how, then you show God that you are not open to following His direction.
Now the big question is how do you know that it is God telling you to perform a task? If you are in the Word and truly involved in a relationship with God, you will know it is from Him as long as it doesn’t go against the Word of God, because we know He never goes against His prior word. Satan is a powerful foe and we are none, strong enough to fight against his evil ways, however, God can and will always defeat Satan.
Keep yourself open to direction from God. There is no greater feeling than knowing you are a part of God’s chosen team. The knowledge that God feels He can entrust you with a job, is a huge badge of honor.
