Today’s devotional is teaching us about the gift of quiet, that only our Father can truly give. As we go about our daily lives, we are surrounded with noise and distractions. I remember a time in my life when I could not handle silence. I see plainly now that it was a time when I had stepped away from God. I was bitter over the death of the man I loved. I felt like a widow, and I was angry that God had not rescued me from this experience. I had four children, so quiet was very rare indeed. However I made sure to keep a tv or stereo on all the time, at the off chance, no one was in desperate need of their Mama.
Quiet meant I would have to think, and I knew if I began that journey, I would soon fall apart. I truly feared I would not be able to get it back together when I was needed. I let my anger cheat me out of many blessings that God could have given me. I tell you, as a single mother of four, who received no child support, yet also provided my mother a room and salary for baby sitting my children while I worked, those were very tough years. It is completely unreasonable now when I see what my petty anger cost me.
Quietness, even in the midst of losing our inner strength and comforts. No matter what is going on in your world around you at this point, God can stop all of it and let you talk to Him. Give you peace with your walk in Him. Lead your every step, to a road that takes you to the highest point of your life. If we but only listen, we can hear what He is telling us, through His Word. We know He only wants the best for us, so trust His direction, and you will continue to receive all the blessings He has stored up for you. If you feel lost, look for His path because we know He will never lead us wrong. Many times sin can temporarily blind us to the greatness of knowing God, but the moment we make the choice to follow God, things will start changing. Blessings will begin to roll in, and that feeling of being a part of something with God, is just the most amazing feeling in the world. We can watch Him instantly quiet the chaos of a life that didn’t include Him, and see the life course altered in a new direction. One that leads to more than we could ever imagine possible.
