Today’s devotional is teaching us about inheritance. A love and appreciation for the gifts of God, can be left to your children and grandchildren. God blesses those of us who are faithful to Him. At times those gifts can be inherited by your loved ones, not necessarily a physical thing left, but a learned behavior of doing good works and dealing with hazards in life, with love or patience. This is by far the greater inheritance than a parcel of land, or a financial gain. Salvation is however not something that can be inherited, that is an individual choice when you realize you want Christ to be your Savior. When we follow the directions of our Lord and obey His laws, we are His. If we spend time in the Lord’s house, and develope that tight bond where God is part of every decision that is made, our children will see and often mimic this behavior. Churches are full of people who attend out of habit, or as a social gathering, not to truly learn about Godly behavior, however being in church does give them an opportunity to be reached by God. As long as they aren’t worried more about what someone might think of them, and let it hold them back from coming to know God, and giving Him control of their heart.
There are many things in this life that you can leave your children, but letting them see you truly walking the walk is the most important gift of all. If people avoid you when they want to tell a dirty joke, consider it a great compliment. If you aren’t hearing details about some sordid affair, this tells you that others see God is in control of your life. I used to think because I choose not to judge anyone, feeling I am not worthy of that job, is why they would not alter their words when I was around. Now I long for the day when someone won’t let swear words leave their mouth in my presence. I know it might seem silly, but I want people to think of God when I cross their mind. Let me never be seperate from the thoughts of God, because He is that much a part of me. What greater gift could we have then to have our name be associated with that of the Lord.
I really missed our time together yesterday, but I had to drive out of town to see my pain specialist to get a cortisone injection in my hip. I have had intense pain there and would truly appreciate your prayers. With all of the physical limitations I have due to health problems, I strive very hard to give back to God for all the blessings He has given me. I always fear being a burden to my loved ones, any more than I ready am. I strive to do something that will bring attention and love to our Father every day. I want so much to give back for all He has done for me. I know I could never earn the many gifts He has given me in this life, but I want to dedicate what is remaining of my time on this earth, to giving God all the glory for the things He has done. I sincerely thank you for sharing part of your day with me, please enjoy this devotional from His Victorious Indwelling:
