Sept 20, 2017 Karla’s Blog
Today’s devotional is teaching us about how to find glory in the work we are doing for our Lord. The scripture references when Mary sat at the feet of Christ and was so transfixed by what he was teaching, she didn’t give thought to her chores about the house in preparing for so many guest in their home. Martha was left to do all the work herself and even though she had a great desire to host Christ in her home, was slightly overwhelmed by all the work that needed to be done to host the group. Martha had a heart of servitude and because of that, felt everyone should want to serve the Lord. She got caught up in the event and lost it’s purpose. Mary was just so thrilled to sit at the feet of Christ and learn anything He was willing to share. Back in those days you didn’t get to hear the message of God and Christ, full of salvation whenever you chose to let your fingers do the tapping.
To hear a message from Christ, Himself can you imagine the gift that was. Then to have Him in your own home, where the message was private to the masses and directed for those in attendance. I can very well see myself get so caught up in opportunity to worship at His feet that I would loose sight of everything else. At the same time when I have my children and grand children over for a holiday; I have felt left out while doing last minute prep in the kitchen and everyone is talking amongst themselves, and excited to all be together again. These are the greatest loves of my earthly life, all in the next room, and I have felt jealousy of them. Admitting it even seems horrible. I have spent my whole life with the goal of loving them, and they have been my reason for enduring the cruelties of this world, yet I felt resentment toward them for their attention to one another.  I am so ashamed of myself for the thought taking hold in my mind and I am sure Martha felt the same way. This was her sister who was taking in every word from Christ mouth. We have to remember that our ultimate goal here on this earth is Christ, and the great commission.  We can’t let jealousy over take our heart. Remember Christ answer to Martha; One thing is needful, rest in the Lord. Keep Him foremost in our thoughts and don’t loose sight of our mission and purpose. Christ will provide for those who have their heart on His mission. At the same time the bible says  “if any will not work, neither let him eat” (2 Thess. 3:10). So we can’t be lazy about doing our part. We all have our strengths and our purpose. Each of us can do what we do best to glorify God. Even the elderly and disabled who may not be able to physically do much, still can pray, and speak on the Lord’s behalf.  We can all teach just by letting others seeing our Godly actions, and seeing our heart is full of God and His love. Keep sight of him first and He will put everything else into place.
